Advisory Group on the Coordination of Care for Children and Youth who are Medically Fragile and/or Technologically Dependent - May 11, 2011

On May 11, 2011 the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health and the Ministry of Child and Youth Services hosted a meeting of the Advisory Group on the Coordination of Care for Children and Youth who are Medically Fragile and/or Technologically Dependent. The purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss the recommendations of the 2008 Report of the Paediatric Complex Care Coordination Expert Panel. Objectives of the meeting focused on:

  • Identifying opportunities for improving care/service coordination for children and youth who are medically fragile and/ or technologically dependent including leveraging successful models currently in existence, and
  • Identifying quick wins and mid-longer term changes including identifying enablers and potential system barriers that must be considered when considered such changes

The meeting was attended by over 40 participants from across the province. Participants included representation from:

  • Children’s treatment centres
  • Community providers
  • Complex care
  • Primary care
  • Child and parent advocates
  • Community Care Access Centres
  • Local Health Integration Networks
  • Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
  • Ministry of Child and Youth Services
  • Ministry of Community and Social Services
