About Us
Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health

In the Fall of 2008 the Provincial Council for Children’s Health (PCCH) began the transition to the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH). The first meeting of the new Council occurred on April 3, 2009. Recognizing the continuum of care within the maternal, newborn, child and youth health care system in Ontario, the scope of the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health is secondary, tertiary and quaternary services, delivered in both community and hospital settings, and includes responding to the needs of disadvantaged communities across Ontario. The work of the Council will reflect the importance of relationships and interfaces among providers and organizations across the continuum of care. The overall goal of the Council is to support the development of a system of care that provides timely, equitable, accessible, high quality, evidence-based, family-centred care in an efficient and effective manner.

The Legacy Groups of PCMCH

In December 2006, the Provincial Council for Children’s Health (PCCH) was established by the Government of Ontario and Ontario’s Paediatric Academic Health Sciences Centres (PAHSCs) as a new provincial organization which consolidated and built on the combined strengths and achievements of its two legacy organizations: the Ontario Children’s Health Network (OCHN) and the Specialized Paediatric Coordinating Council (SPCC). The PCCH was accountable to the government and the PAHSCs .

Specialized Paediatric Coordinating Council (2002) + Ontario Children’s Health Network (2003) = Provincial Council for Children’s Health (2006) → Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (2008).
